Meeting Matt Mullenweg

The NeuConcept team got to meet one of our heroes in technology. And what made it even better was that it was an informal, fun encounter!

How awesome is it when you are eating lunch and Matt Mullenweg asks if he can join you?

This happened on Saturday while we were attending WordCamp St. Louis, which was our first event of this kind in STL. This is where web developers and managers get together to learn about the WordPress (a most excellent content management system). (We had traveled to the Chicago Wordcamp last year.) It wasn’t until we were reviewing the schedule the night before that we noticed that Matt Mullenweg, the founder and advocate of WordPress, was going to be there.

To put this in perspective, we follow Matt’s blogs and have watched many hours of interviews with him because he’s innovative and changing the world, especially in web development. Plus, we love WordPress and are amazed at how Matt has helped this Open Source effort to grow exponentially while also improving quality. As a result, about 50 million people and companies, like the NY Times and our company (of course), are using WordPress.

It was a great event, and we were thrilled to meet Matt. This is especially cool because Brett would have been too shy to go up and talk to Matt otherwise. Matt was, as I expected, a charming and down-to-earth guy. May we meet again and continue to make the world a better place.
