From the first time we heard Matt Mullenweg (the WordPress founder) speak about his company’s philosophy of getting the best talent around the world without having to be in a central location, we were intrigued. In fact, I would love to write a book about it. Matt has selected a global team that mostly works remotely from home—and this enables him to get the best people no matter where they are located.
Technology has evaporated many of the boundaries of location, but face-to-face still has an important impact. Matt’s company, Automattic, has included this personal dimension by meeting up in different locations. We were lucky to meet with about 20 or so Automatticians here in St. Louis last year when they had a company meeting after WordCamp STL.
Forbes recently wrote about about Matt’s ideas on the Future of Work: Good stuff! http://ma.tt/2012/09/future-of-work/
